Dear parents and KHSCO seniors,

Words cannot express how thankful I am for the assistance and help you have given to KHSCO during this entire SYF 2010 journey!

I believe that KHSCO has performed their BEST today during the SYF Competition! Instructors were extremely impressed and many who came to support were moved to tears by their outstanding performance!

WELL DONE KHSCO! You've done Kong Hwa proud by showing your determination and perserverence! :) We are now awaiting the announcement of results on Thursday afternoon, and no matter what the result would be, KHSCO has put up a wonderful performance!! :)

Special thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped out in one way or another! It would not have been possible without your understanding and cooperation! :)

It has been CONFIRMED.

Our SYF Competition date is on 20th April 2010 (Tuesday) at 3:25pm at Singapore Conference Hall. We would have to report by 2:20pm for registration and tuning.

We would like to appeal to all parents and KHSCO Alumni students to support and motivate our students on both the Rehearsal and Competition Days. :)

Here are some NEW updates for KHSCO:

1) Changes in Training Timings
After receiving many feedback from parents and instructors and to co-ordinate with the school bus transport, there will be a slight change in training timings as well as an additional training session on Wed for ALL STUDENTS who are involved in SYF 2010.

Dear Parents & Students,

2010 - the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Competition year has arrived.

Our sessions are conducted as such:
小课 (Xiao Ke)：Personal Coaching Lessons, fees payable by students
小组 (Xiao Zu)：Students are divided into various instrumental groups for practice with an instructor
大组 (Da Zu) ：Students gather together to practice the music piece together in the CO Room

To further clarify the practice timings and sessions, I've compiled a short summary of the practice sessions and the group of students who are to attend them.

Current P4 - P6 KHSCO students
Training sessions are on Mondays & Fridays, from 2:00pm to 5:30pm (3 and a half hours)
(Pls kindly note the extension of practice timings so that we dont have to increase an additional day of practice for the competition.)

P3 students who attended CO Enrichment Lessons from P2
Training sessions are on Mondays ONLY. CCA will be from 2:00pm to 5:30pm on 11 Jan 2010 (Monday), and timings for subsequent trainings will be advised according to the instrument played.

New P3 students joining CO in 2010
Training sessions are on Mondays ONLY. New P3 students will only start CCA on 18 Jan 2010 (Monday). Training timings will be advised.

KHSCO Immersion Updates for all parents

Dear Parents,

KHSCO will be heading to Taiwan for the Immersion Trip this Sunday 16 November 2008. Please be reminded to meet at 9am Changi Airport Terminal 3 in front of SIA Counter.

Please kindly contact me via the Emergency Line if your child will be late.

Here are a few important matters prior the Taiwan Trip:

Weather in Taiwan
Transinex has kindly informed us that the weather in Taipei now is 16 - 18 degree celsius. (http://www.cwb.gov.tw/) It may be even colder at night with small showers in the evening, hence please remind your child to bring a thicker sweater as well as a scarf/hat to protect himself/herself from the cold. Long sleeved shirts and pants are strongly encouraged during the day and night. Do pack this sweater into the hand carry/backpack so that it is easy for the student to wear it when we touch down at Taipei.

Your child's Well Being
Many of the students told me that they are taking vitamins everyday to strengthen their immune system. Thank you very much for your support and help! Please remind your child to bring a week's worth of vitamins along for the trip so that the teachers can ensure that they do take them during the trip.

Hand carry CO Instruments
Shih Men has kindly arranged for us to use their instruments hence we do not need to bring the bulky instruments to Taiwan. We will be bringing the following instruments to Taiwan:
1) Flute (hand carry)
2) Er Hu (hand carry)
3) Xiao Ruan (hand carry)
4) Liu Qin (hand carry)
5) San Xian (teachers will carry this instrument)
6) Zhong Yin Suo Na (can be put in luggage)

All members in the group are required to help carry the instruments, hence do not worry that the students have to carry it throughtout the entire journey. All instruments will be tagged and labelled when we gather at the airport.

Information for Parents joining us during the Immersion
I've contacted Shirley and we've went all the itinerary and meals for the entire trip. Please rest assured that ALL meals are included during the entire journey. Shirley will give all parents the updated itinerary on Sunday. There are NO changes in the accomodation, just a slight change in the sequence of sightseeing locations.

KHSCO would like to plan an overseas performance trip to Taiwan from 16 November to 23 November 2008. This proposed trip would be a collaboration with Shih Men Elementary School-石门国小 (http://www.smes.tyc.edu.tw) whose Chinese Orchestra team has won many national awards in Taiwan.The objective of this overseas trip is to enable the students to gain performance experience beyond Singapore's stage and to promote interaction between KHSCO students and Taiwan (石门国小)CO students. KHSCO parents' views and opinions are important to us and would help us facilitate the planning process. Please kindly participate in this survey and share your thoughts with us.

The KHSCO students had performed extremely well during the SYF 2008 Central Judging, hence the school will be planning a series of activities to reward them as well as to motivate the students to work harder.

Celebration Event 1: Snow City ( A FUN FILLED day with Snow Olympics and Snow Play)
Time: 1:30pm to 6:00pm
Date: 25th April 2008 (Friday)
Attire: Please bring along long pants (trackpants or jeans) and a jacket. Winter jackets and boots will be provided by Snow City.

Here is the schedule of the day:

2:30pm - Arrival and Changing into Winter Wear
3:15pm - Winter Olympics @ Snow Chamber

Here is an update of the remaining Chinese Orchestra Practices before the actual competition on 1st April 2008 (Tuesday). Please kindly note that we have extended the final Saturday Practice by an hour till 12 noon, and added an additional Monday Practice. We seek your kind understanding and full attendance is expected from all the Chinese Orchestra Students during this period.

1) Pre SYF Parents’ Meeting 1st March 2008 (Saturday) 8am – 930am
We sincerely hope that parents can lend us a helping hand in the preparation for SYF 2008. Your help is greatly appreciated. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the roles of the Teachers in Charge as well as the parent volunteers. We will also be standardizing the make up, hair styles, work flow etc. Please kindly let us know if you are able to help out. :) Thank you very much in advance!

Arrival of New CO Costumes

Hi everyone,

The NEW CO Costumes were distributed to the students today. Please do take good care of the costume. It is advisable to hand wash the costume in case the colour of the blue cloth runs.

The students will be wearing the costume for the CNY Performance in school on 6th Feb 08, as well as external performances from here on, so that they will get used to the material and cut of the costume.

KHSCO will provide each and every student a set of costume, socks and matching hair accessories (for girls only). However, students are required to get their own BLACK shoes. The following is a sample of the shoes the girls and guys must wear.

The standard makeup look will be printed for all parents at a later date. We sincerely hope that you will be able to support KHS and CO children achieve the best results in SYF 2008.

The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) City Chinese Orchestra presents its popular Chinese Classics series in collaboration with invited guests from Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

The Orchestra will be performing popular Orchestral pieces on the theme of war (for instance Fantasia Terra-cotta Warriors 秦兵马俑幻想曲 etc.) Here are the details of the performance:

Dear all,

Attached is the Term 4, Nov and Dec Holiday Training Schedule.

**Please note that there are slight changes: Students will only be attending 1/2 day camp on 5 Nov. After lunch at Dunman, they will be heading back to Kong Hwa for 小组 practice with their respective instructors and for new costumes measurements. They will be released at the same time - 5:45pm.

The trainings in the Holidays will be on Mondays (9am - 430pm), Thurdays (9am - 1230pm) and Fridays (9am - 430pm). The students will be practising the 2 SYF pieces intensively during the school holidays.

We hope to seek your understanding and let's encourage the students to perform their best! :)

Hi everyone,

Please take note that the CO Session 大组 on 1st August is cancelled for the safety of the pupils, as some cracks were found on a wall at KHS Extension on Monday. 小课 will still commence at the other Extension block that is unaffected.

Rest assured that the situation is currently being assessed and measures will be taken to fix the problem. The OM and school has already taken steps to address it.

Lessons will carry on next Monday 1:30pm - 4:30pm.

Middle Earth TV has successfully filmed the KHS CO students during practice today. The show will be aired on Channel 8 in June/July and I will keep everyone informed about the timing! :)

We would like to thank all the parents for their kind understanding. We aimed to end the production at 430pm, hence no consent forms were issued as it was still within the CCA practice hours (130pm to 430pm). However, the filming time was extended and we sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused.

Nevertheless, the students had a great time filming and do keep a lookout for the performances and interviews this coming June/July! And the teachers would also like to thank all the KHS CO Alumni for coming down to lend a hand and to offer their support! You guys are simply great! :)

Once again, thank you very much for your kind understanding :)

Hi all,

Middle Earth Production Team will be filming KHSCO on Wednesday (11th April) at 230pm. Some students will be interviewed and the show will be aired on channel 8 (I will update everyone about the date and time of the show. :))

Please be informed that all Chinese Orchestra Practices from this week onwards, will be cancelled due to the exams. The practices will only resume on 10th November 2006 (Friday).

URGENT: Presentation Ceremony on 16th Sept Postponed

Dear Parents and Students,

I'm sorry to inform you that the Presentation Ceremony has to be postponed to another later date as we encountered some delays in the making of the new CO cupboard for musical instruments storage.

The aim of the Presentation Ceremony is to present the SYF Trophies as well as to hold a small opening ceremony for the new Orchestra Room in the Kong Hwa Extension. Hence, after much discussion, we decided to postpone it a later date, probably at the end of the month.

We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused, and we will send you another formal invitation for the event proper.

Please be informed that the practices will be as usual (Monday and Friday 130pm to 430pm at the Orchestra Rooms) during the one week school holidays.

Cancellation of Practice on Friday 1st Sept

Due to the Teachers' Day school holiday, the CO practice on Friday (1st Sept) is cancelled. Please take note that both the 大组 and 小组练习 are cancelled.

Practices will resume next Monday(4th Sept) and Friday (8th Sept) from 1330hrs-1630 hrs at Kong Hwa. Do check out our schedule here for more information.

High Tea Session to be Postponed till further notice

Dear Parents and Students,

The High Tea session (formerly on 2nd Sept 2006) is postponed to another later date. The new rooms at KH extension are not ready as the safety and maintanence of the musical instruments are our main considerations.

This is a reminder that the 大组练习 this friday (18th August 2006) has been cancelled due to the Primary 6 PSLE Oral Exams.

However, the respective 小课 will be still ongoing at their respective timing and venues.

Dear students, please complete the consent forms and hand it up to the Teacher In Charge(TIC) by Monday (21st August) if you haven't done so. :)

Time to gather: 330pm
Performance venue: 845 Geylang Rd, Tanjong Katong Complex, 千喜楼 Level 4
Dismissal point: Kong Hwa School
Dismissal time: 845pm

The entire program of the day is as follows:

325pm - Gather at Kong Hwa School Canteen
330pm - Rehearsal
430pm - Getting Dressed/Make Up
500pm - Bus leave for 千喜楼
530pm - Reach Destination
545pm - Rehearsing at 千喜楼
630pm - Dinner (Dinner will be provided)
700pm - Attire/Makeup adjustments
730pm - Start of Performance (Approximately 30-45mins)
815pm - Leave for Kong Hwa School
845pm - Dismissal of students from Kong Hwa School canteen

Students are reminded to wear black shoes for the performance.
