Dear Parents,

Regarding Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Chinese Orchestra Central Judging Competition

Thank you very much for your continuous support towards Kong Hwa School Chinese Orchestra (KHSCO)! SYF will commence in the first week of April 2008 and here are some important updates.

1) Pre SYF Parents’ Meeting 1st March 2008 (Saturday) 8am – 930am
We sincerely hope that parents can lend us a helping hand in the preparation for SYF 2008. Your help is greatly appreciated. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the roles of the Teachers in Charge as well as the parent volunteers. We will also be standardizing the make up, hair styles, work flow etc. Please kindly let us know if you are able to help out. :) Thank you very much in advance!

2) SYF Full Dress Rehearsal at Singapore Conference Hall 7th March 2008 (Friday)
Here are the details of the SYF Full Dress Rehearsal at Singapore Conference Hall:

Date: 7th March 2008 (Friday)
Time: 4:30pm to 6pm (Use of SCH Stage)

Planned Schedule for KHSCO:

10:00am
Start of CO Practice in KHS (Students to wear school T-shirt and shorts/skirt with black shoes and bring costume)
1:00pm
Lunch
2:00pm
Students to pack instruments, change into costume, start of make-up and hair
3:00pm
Students gather at school canteen, last minute checks
Instruments to be loaded into lorry
3:15pm
Boarding bus, heading to Singapore Conference Hall
3:45pm
Arrival at Singapore Conference Hall
3:45pm – 4:25pm
Tuning of Instruments and gathering at the respective areas
4:30pm – 6:00pm
Rehearsal at Singapore Conference Hall stage
6:00pm – 6:30pm
Exit stage and gather as a group, instruments to be loaded into lorry

Boarding bus, heading back to Kong Hwa School
7:00pm
Arrival at Kong Hwa School

Arrival of New CO Costumes

Hi everyone,

The NEW CO Costumes were distributed to the students today. Please do take good care of the costume. It is advisable to hand wash the costume in case the colour of the blue cloth runs.

The students will be wearing the costume for the CNY Performance in school on 6th Feb 08, as well as external performances from here on, so that they will get used to the material and cut of the costume.

KHSCO will provide each and every student a set of costume, socks and matching hair accessories (for girls only). However, students are required to get their own BLACK shoes. The following is a sample of the shoes the girls and guys must wear.

The standard makeup look will be printed for all parents at a later date. We sincerely hope that you will be able to support KHS and CO children achieve the best results in SYF 2008.

"Sound of War" Performance 2nd Dec 2007 (Sun)

The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) City Chinese Orchestra presents its popular Chinese Classics series in collaboration with invited guests from Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

The Orchestra will be performing popular Orchestral pieces on the theme of war (for instance Fantasia Terra-cotta Warriors 秦兵马俑幻想曲 etc.) Here are the details of the performance:

Date: 2nd Dec 07 (Sunday)
Venue: Victoria Concert Hall
Time: 5pm
Ticket Price: $12 and $15

Term 4, Nov and Dec Holiday Training Schedule

Dear all,

Attached is the Term 4, Nov and Dec Holiday Training Schedule.

**Please note that there are slight changes: Students will only be attending 1/2 day camp on 5 Nov. After lunch at Dunman, they will be heading back to Kong Hwa for 小组 practice with their respective instructors and for new costumes measurements. They will be released at the same time - 5:45pm.

The trainings in the Holidays will be on Mondays (9am - 430pm), Thurdays (9am - 1230pm) and Fridays (9am - 430pm). The students will be practising the 2 SYF pieces intensively during the school holidays.



We hope to seek your understanding and let's encourage the students to perform their best! :)

East Zone CO Camp from 2nd Nov 07

Dear all,

Please be informed that the students will be attending East Zone CO Camp. Details are as follows:

Date: 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 Nov 2007
Time: 715am - 545pm (Students to gather in school canteen, students will be dismissed at 545pm in Kong Hwa School)
Attire: PE Shirt and Shorts/Skirt

There will also be a performance on 10th November 2007 at Victoria Concert Hall. Details are as follows:

Date: 10 Nov 2007
Time: 9am - 8pm (9am to start practice at KHS, performance starts at 5pm)
Attire: Wear PE shirt and shorts/shirt and bring along costume

Term 4 is extremely crucial and we hope to seek the parents' support in engaging the students in the weekly practices.

Attendance is very important and students who are absent must submit parents' letter/medical certificate to the Duty Teacher In Charge.

SHHK Combined Camp and Performance

Hi all,

35 students were selected to participate in the SHHK Combined Camp and Performance. The details are as follows:

1) SHHK Combined Camp - 道南、崇福、爱同、南侨、光华
Date: 5 Sept - 7 Sept 07
Time: 9am - 4pm
Venue: KHS
Attire: School Uniform

Music teachers will be teaching all the students new pieces and the students will be able to interact with CO students from other schools.

2) SHHK Performance
Date: 8 Sept 07
Time: 1030am - 330pm (Performance from 2pm - 3pm)
Venue: KHS School Hall
Attire: School Uniform (Orange T-Shirt for Camp Participants)

This is when the various schools present a music piece of their own, plus the combined CO Camp piece.

CO Session this Wednesday 1st Aug Cancelled

Hi everyone,

Please take note that the CO Session 大组 on 1st August is cancelled for the safety of the pupils, as some cracks were found on a wall at KHS Extension on Monday. 小课 will still commence at the other Extension block that is unaffected.

Rest assured that the situation is currently being assessed and measures will be taken to fix the problem. The OM and school has already taken steps to address it.

Lessons will carry on next Monday 1:30pm - 4:30pm.

KHS CO will be attending a performance by SYCO this Saturday (2nd June). The details are as follows:

Date: 2nd June 2007 (Sat)
Venue: Singapore Conference Hall
Time to Assemble: 7:30pm to gather at the Lobby of Conference Hall
Time of Dismissal: 10pm at Singapore Conference Hall
Attire: Casual


Please note:

1) Students do not have to pay for their tickets as it will be paid for by the school. Parents who would like to attend the performance, please purchase your tickets at SISTIC counters.

2) Students are to gather at the Lobby before the performance and they will be dismissed from the Conference Hall. Please note that no transport is provided for this event.

Amended Holiday Schedule

Hi everyone,

The amended holiday schedule is distributed to the student today.

Please kindly note that the Big Group practices has been shifted to Friday Morning 830am - 1230pm on 1st June and 8th June, after which lunch will be provided for the students. They will be viewing a few Chinese Orchestra Videos as well.

As for Week 4 of holidays, the students will be attending Big Group sessions on Wednesday 20th June from 1pm to 5pm.
